21. 1Simple gauze
All gauze woven with crossing ends/doup ends and fixed ends within a fixed structure. This includes full crossed (wanquanjiaozhuan) and half crossed gauze (banjiaozhuan). Plain gauze (sha) is formed by one doup end and one fixed end, fully crossed after each shuttle movement, which could be further divided according to the cross direction into: straight plain gauze (yishunjiaosha) and countering plain gauze (duichenjiaosha). All the rest could be called lou gauze.

1Patterned simple gauze
Using a gauze weave together with tabby weave or float weave to create a patterned gauze, The variations include: 1. Patterned gauze with gauze ground (liangdisha); 2. Patterned gauze with tabby ground (shidisha).
Full-crossed gauze over three warps and half-crossed gauze crossing two warps were popular in Song and Yuan dynasty. In later periods, gauze often feature ribbed effects, such as: 1.warp ribbed gauze (hengluo); 2.weft ribbed gauze (zhiluo); 3. patterned ribbed gauze (tihuahangluo).

1Complex gauze
Gauze woven without a fixed relationship between the crossing end and fixed end are called complex gauze (tongjiaoluo). This includes alternating complex gauze (erjingtongjiaoluo) and 4-end complex gauze (sijingjiaoluo).
