37. 1Twine There are two sets of yarns, one with two or more groups for twining and patterning, interlaces with the other straight. The yarns may be full twined (wanquanjiaobian) and half twined (buwanqianjiaobian), the latter changing the position of yarns and forming the pattern. The twining method was widely used from the Han to Tang dynasties. 38. 1Wrapping The weft is wrapped either on the warp to form the weave or on a foundation weave to make the pattern. The wrapping method includes: 1. simple wrapping (jiandanraobian); 2. turned wrapping (fanxiangraobian); and 3. symmetrical wrapping (bianjuraobian). The wrapping method, similar to soumak wrap, was used in the ribbons from the Warring States Period. 39. 1Chain stitch Chain stitch (suoxiu) is a classic embroidery stitch in China, first appearing during the Shang and Zhou dynasties, popular between the Warring States, Han dynasty, and the Tang dynasty. There are some variations, including open chain stitch (kaikousuozhen) with a wide opening and heavy chain stitch (chongsuo) with double chains. |
